Transparency is central to the efficiency of
information system in organisations. Mitchell (1998) cited that an effective and dependable correct information
recordkeeping system must be in place in order to provide for accountability.
The openness of the disseminators and handlers of information must be
fostered in order to establish trust between the concerned parties. As such
privacy policies with regard to the use of web based content need to be clearly
defined to warrant the materials in the relevant website in terms of
the correctness, accuracy, functionality or otherwise. Privacy in this regard
is defined as the rights and obligations of individuals and organizations with
respect to the collection, use, retention and disclosure of personal information
(Seeburn, 2012). Most
organizations collect individual personal information when they conduct surveys
and research in their database because there’s ever increasing opportunities
for these organisations to gain value by using people’s information, therefore
sensitive personal information generally needs an extra level of protection and
an added obligation of care. Furthermore individuals will have trust in the
system if they have knowledge
that there’s an on-going research about their information and how will their
information will be used, they will have confidence that the attributes of
availability, reliability, integrity and security are embraced in the use of
their information in the system, individuals also need to excise a certain
degree of control about their data, that is, they need to be afforded with an opportunity
and the ability to effectively manage the extent to which their personal data
is shared and to be able to verify its accuracy. They need to understand the
value created by the use of their data and how they are compensated for it. To
ensure transparency an Information System manager needs to put in place the
privacy policy that complies with privacy laws and regulations.
