Conducted Survey - Background & Recommendations

Background
Information systems have become a huge part of our everyday lives and some people take this for granted. IS is everywhere, from the phone in your pocket to your computer at home.  The purpose of this blog is to help increase the knowledge on the devices/ technology that you hold dear to your heart, because it is apparent the most people don’t have an idea on how far IS stretches.
A survey asking questions about what people know about IS and how much of it they use will give a guideline as to what we can include in the blog to help enlighten them. So therefore in essence the main idea behind the survey is to gather result on how, on average, people know or don’t know about IS. For example the types Information systems such as Management information systems, or Transaction processing systems that people come into contact with almost on a daily basis but don’t really realise that they do.

Retrospective
In order to give useful information as to why people need to know about IS, we needed to know what people already know about IS and more importantly, what they didnt know. The first questions of the survey helped us establish just this.  This way we were able to pay special attention to the most common misunderstandings concernign IS
Specifically, we wanted to find out if people recognised that information systems have other components besides computers and electronic devices.  We wanted to get an idea as to whether people fully realise the benefits that common information such as Facebook have.
The survey was also used to find out what kind of information people use the most. The nature of the information was separated into two main categories; work information and personal information. Knowing the nature of the information that people are using provided us with two key  pieces of information for ourselves. It gave us direction as to how much we should allocate the focus of our attention. We wanted our blog to appeal to people who know little to nothing about IS and this was further established by the last 3 questions of the survey

Recommendtations
From the results of our survey it seems clear that not many people recognised that information systems goes beyond the computer technology. The most common reason for this would be the use of the terminology, which is why I would suggest that people should explore and understand the concept of IS in many different ways.
We had also seen that people are reluctant to move from trailed and tested methods with regards to ho the access, manage and use the information from their own personal IS. This was most evident with the results of question 8, where most people stated that they would rather use USB's to save important information as this was the safest option. We got the impression that this was also due a lasck of knowledge about the benefits of other means, such as the cloud.
We were surprised to find out that people use information systems for personal reasons over work related activities. We would suggest that people should try to intergrate the information systems that they use for both to help organise their needs for everything all in one place.
Information systems today are used in almost all walks of life. A subtle understanding of how IS work and why they are used would benefit anybody.
