Development of IS

Imagine a life without the thing you hold most dear to you heart, and no I’m not talking about your loved ones , thing I’m talking about is the little piece of technology that you’re using to read this blog, whether it be you’re your laptop, tablet or maybe even your state of the art smart phone. Information systems have come a long way since the dark ages. From huge bulky mainframe computers to pocket sized mobile phones.
Changes in Information and how information is managed has affected how people live, work and socialize. Information is now easily accessed and shared at supersonic speed compared the paper based way information was shared in in the 1400s. Storage of information in this form the was a nail pulling experience because it meant that the more information was printed, filing systems just got larger and larger as information grew. This brought about a huge need for a management system that could handle all this information with ease. In the 1980s is when the computer brought change into information systems. Computers translated information into digital files which were easy to store. These could be stored in data centres.
Computers were then enabled to first share file locally using LAN (Local Area Networks). Wide Area Networks (WAN) came about in the 1990s; this made it possible to share information worldwide via the internet. Present day, more than1.5 Billion devices are connected to one another including that phone in your pocket. Now we are able to do as much on a phone as you can on our computers.
